I was toying around with my blogger blog and I noticed this weird bug or error. I cannot add a page element to my layout. Whether it was a bug or a real error, I still managed to make a work around to make it work.

Information about the error

I’m currently using blogger beta and I’m in the layout page. I currently have two places where I can add a page element and each of them has one widget. Whenever I try to add one, I cannot proceed after choosing which page element I want to add because it returns a 404 not found error.

Update from Entreprenars:

I found out that if you clicked the desired page element without the page being fully loaded, the 404 error always appears. What I did was to wait for the page to be loaded fully before choosing the desired page element . It was effective on me and the 404 error never came back.

Solution # 1 : Keep trying to add the page element

I did and after five tries of getting 404 not found error, I gave up… next solution please..

Solution # 2 : Relocating your widgets/page elements

In this solution, I moved all the widgets into one place. This picture can help you understand more.

As you can see in the picture, I moved all my widgets to the right part of the blog. Then I proceeded to add a widget on the lower part. Success!!! After that, I just rearranged my widgets again.

It’s just a simple solution but I’m glad it works. So if ever you come across the “404 not found error” while trying to add a page element in blogger/blogspot, you now know what to do. For more tips, bug fixes and solutions that you can find in wordpress and blogger, just subscribe to my feeds.

You can try this one if it is also effective on you. =]

    @EntrepreNars - I see, so I guess that’s the more logical reason why I got the error, would you mind if I use this comment of yours to edit this post? Of course, I’ll cite you as my source.

    Yet another reason for me not to use blogger. Why do people still use blogger anyways? It seems to have many errors, and domains and hosting don’t cost that much, so why not start a real blog?

    Thats good to know, thanks. I am needing to do some changing around my self, so I will keep this in mind if I run into a similar error.

    @Rostyslav - People still use blogger because it is free. Not all people want to pay for a domain and hosting, do the setup and other technical stuffs just to share their thoughts and experiences. ^_^

    @Porch Lifts - Sure! No problem. :)
