Buffalo WCR-GN Router Revival and Firmware Update to v1.08

Buffalo WCR-GN Router Update

Update: Router is dead just a few minutes after firmware update

Just today, my Linksys E1200 router died (why do routers always die on me? 🙁 ). Since it was less than a year since I bought it, I returned it to the store and they said that they will forward it to the supplier. ETA would be 3 weeks! 3 weeks of no router? That’s just sad…

So I went to my gadget graveyard and picked up my Buffalo WCR-GN router which has a previous revival moment. I plugged it in and it was alive! Even my old settings were still there so for now, I’ll be using this until it dies again or my Linksys router returns. Also, just to mention that it also had an available firmware update which you can download from here.

Here’s the change log for your reference/curiosity:

Ver1.08

[Bug fixes]

  1. Fixed bug where authentication fails with a specific PPPoE server.
  2. Fixed bug where PPPoE connection may be disconnected.
  3. Fixed bug where a PPPoE profile created with Setup Wizard may not apply.
  4. Improved connectivity with some wireless clients.

Now, my newly revived WCR-GN router is now at version WCR-GN Ver.1.08(R4.25/B1.13)  from WCR-GN Ver.1.04(R4.20/B1.13).

Till next time,

Allen
