Just today, I went to Greenhills Shopping Center and bought a Wii fit.

Prior to leaving the house, I already looked at prizes of Wii Fit in Amazon and in Ebay as my initial canvass. Armed with that knowledge, I went to Greenhills Shopping Center and went through all stores that offers Wii Fit available.

Here are the things I have learned:

Different Wii Fit Game Versions :: Wii Fit Plus is the newer version but I believe the Wii Balance Board hardware is still the same so there’s not much of a different here.

• Wii Fit
• Wii Fit Plus

Different types of Wii Fit

• US Version – The box contains all English characters and is the most expensive Wii Fit Package. It also includes an original Wii Fit Game. (PHP4.5 to 7k)
• Korean Version – The box contains Korean text and also contains an original Wii Fit Game but in Korean also. (PHP 4k to 4.5k)
• China (Class A) Version (2.8k to 4k)
• Wu Fit – Check out the image below and see the difference from the original. This is the cheapest version of them all. (did not consider it)
  

I don’t know about you but seeing WU fit instead of Wii Fit instantly became a no no for me. So anyway, I got the Wii Fit Korean Version as it is the a cheaper than the US version and has the same features. (I have no problem with Wii fit games as I can get them separately )

This baby is going to keep me busy for a while as I paid good money for it.

My first batch of Sanyo 2700 maH batteries were a big disappointment.

Update:: These batteries discharge to death just after 1 week unlike my Uniross Batteries 2100 that are still alive after 1 week.

First of all, I’m hoping that I just got a bad batch since I got these batteries bundled from a Sanyo Charger I bought. These are the white/orange version of Sanyo rechargable batteries 2700 mAH. I’ve been seeing another color of these Sanyo 2700 online. I’m not really sure on what is the difference.

Last week, when I placed them on my wii remote, they were dead. I thought at first that I simply forgot to charge them before hand so I charged them. I was able to play for a few hours and then I left home. I just returned today (after 5 days) and when I tried to turn on my wii remote, they are dead again. If they drain that fast, then it is not a good battery to use.

So what do I do now? I need to buy new batteries again and hopefully, they won’t die on me fast just like this one.

(I’m giving these batteries a chance by doing a recycle on them. I hope it improves their battery life else, I’ll tag them as a failure and never buy them again.)

You have the WII and you have your rechargeable batteries, but how do you maintain power in your batteries? Easy! By getting a battery charger. In this post, I’ll share what I know on battery chargers.

Battery Chargers are the things you need when you want to charge your Ni-MH and Ni-CD batteries.

Please do not try to recharge normal (alkaline batteries). It is not effective and there is a risk of explosion.

One thing you should know about battery chargers is that, some are dumb and some are smart. So what’s the difference?

Dumb chargers simply charge the hell out of your battery regardless if it is full or not. They are not capable of doing anything but charge batteries. Imagine water flowing from the faucet filling up a pail of water. You have to manually turn it off when it is full and you should be blind and deaf in which you can only guess when it is full or not. On the other hand, smart chargers are chargers that has more functions. They are able to detect if a battery is full and would stop charging them.

So we would obviously need some smart chargers and not dumb ones. (the first charger I bought was a dumb charger and that was when I did not doresearch but just bought impulsively).

Features to look for in a smart charger.

• Slots – how many batteries can you charge at a time? Also make sure that the slots work individually, avoid those chargers that need pairs to charge
• Speed in charging – Normal charging of a 2100 mAh battery takes around 14 hours (stated in manual), but some can charge them faster. Some even claims to charge them in 15 minutes. Look for a charger that is not too fast (1 hour or so) but not too long (more than 10 hours). My own preference is that it can fully recharge your batteries in just 5-6 hours. Also note that the higher mAh your batteries have, the higher time you need to fully charge it.
• LED – the light is on when charging, it is off when it doesn’t
• Discharge feature (optional) – This enables you to do a reset of your battery by draining it to 0 then recharging it to full. Gets rid of memory effect.
• Trickle effect – maintains battery in full as long as the charger is on
• “I’m already full” detection – this is what makes chargers smart!
• No Timers – Smart Chargers do not rely on timers to know when a battery is fully charged or not. Timers are set to turn off the charger after a specific time.

How to test if a charger is smart?

Charge a battery to full then take a poop. Try to charge it again and see if the LED in the charging lits up. If it does, it is not smart. If it doesn’t, either you have a defective LED or it is smart!

• Sanyo Refresh Quick Charger – 4slots / individual charging, discharge feature, I’m already full detection, 6-8hours charging. This is what I have currently
• GP Chargers
• Energizer
• Duracell
• Powerbase

More brands to come soon but unlike batteries, you can buy one and be happy with it.

Budget should be around$15-$30 only. I know that there are chargers that are more expensive and carries more features but it is an overkill already for me. A simple smart charger should suffice your wii.

I recently got a WII game console and one of the first things I want to address is the question on “How do I maintain power in my WII remote?“So my research started.

The wii remote is the controller for the wii and just like a remote control, requires power to operate. The power needed for the wii console is different from the power needed for the wii remote. The wii remote is by powered by two (2) AA sized batteries. So this lead me to my problem because if they are powered by batteries and batteries do run out, either I need to get new batteries or stop playing. Not playing is not an option so I did some research on batteries and what batteries would be best for wii remotes?

According to my research, there are many kinds of batteries

• Alkalines – is the most common battery. This is not recommendable for wii remote because when they run out, you have no choice but to dispose of them which Mother Nature won’t like because of it’s toxic stuff.
• NiCd batteries – is the old school rechargable battery. I remember using these when I was still playing gameboy but these are so old that it is not advisable to use them. They also contain bad chemicals which is banned in other countries. They are also prone to the “memory effect” where the lifespan shortens every time you recharge them.
• Ni-MH batteries – is the common rechargable battery. As I read in forums and other websites, people usually suggest that we use these type of batteries for the wii remote.

By simply following the crowd, I limited my selections to choosing only Ni-MH batteries but there were so many brands and chargers out there that it looks overwhelming. But research prevails and here are what I have learned starting with batteries.

When looking for rechargable batteries, I take into consideration the following

• Capacity – usually measure in mAH. The higher, the better and much more expensive. The highest so far I have seen is 2700.
• Brand – People would usually recommend certain brands that works for them. So what I do is take notes while doing some research and do some kind of a tally on the brands they have been recommending. Why go for the untested when you can go for the proven (I think this is on a commercial, was it Olay? )
• Discharge when not in use – This is not actually really a requirement if you are an active wii player (at least daily). But if you want to make sure that the moment you pick up your wii to play days later, you can play without charging first, you need to take this into consideration. Batteries discharge themselves over time and Ni-MH batteries are no exception. There are certain rechargable batteries that tries to minimize this effect (Sanyo Eneloop, Uniross Hybrio)

SANYO Eneloop

• 2000 mAh (1900 mAh)
• Super minimal discharge – still has 85% power after 1 year of not using it

Sanyo 2,700 mAh AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries

• 2700 mAh – more power!

Duracell Pre Charged Rechargeable NiMH AA Batteries

• Similar to Sanyo Eneloops
• Do not confuse with regular Duracell Alkaline

Other batteries worth looking at

• AA Hybrio Ready-To-Use Rechargeable Battery
• Ansmann Max E Ready To Use AA NIMH 2100 Mah Batteries
• Energizer 2450mAh Rechargeable

Now that you have your rechargable battery, it is time to look for chargers that would give them some juice!

After watching Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on the movies, I wanted to try the game version of Transformers.

Well, after playing for around 30-40 minutes where I learned about the controls, I can say that the transformers game is boring. I was expecting so much and got disappointed.

Ok, you can play as the one of the robots, and you are simply going to shoot/punch your way all the way to the end of the stage. After that, you can hear some voice acting by the robots then another level. Do the same thing, kill them or be killed by overwhelming enemies. Your controls are simply to shoot some unlimited ammo gun, shoot a big shot limited super weapon, or punch them melee style. Enemies usually die after getting punched.

Enemies also drop some powerups which can either heal, increase your energy or change your unlimited ammo gun. You can also do a special move where they will transform to their vehicle counterparts then do some weird dance and the enemies drop dead. Aside from that, it’s all shoot or punch till the end of the level.

ah yeah, Bumblebee has the highest survival rate among the autbots because he is the only who can heal himself. Healing is a must in this game and others are just too slow and die like flies.

My expectations for this game were like this:

• Be able to transform to your vehicle and back to be able to strategize against your opponents – best part of transformers!!! It was what made transformers so cool and yet its not in the game!
• Better graphics. (yes it has cool movies and stuff but the normal game has so so graphics… you just have tons of exploding cars and trucks)
• Better controls. The controls are easy and straight forward. They gave you a chance to dodge enemies yet you can’t control how you dodge? (if you know how to control it, leave a comment)

So what’s next? Oh well, I hope the next transformers psp game would be better else we can say that this belongs to cool movie, crap game group.
