I’ve been looking going around in my wordpress admin dashboard and I’m getting bothered with all the text that says, “WordPress 2.5.1 is available! Please update now“. Wordpress 2.5.1 was released last week and usually I upgrade as soon as I see it but not this time. It was part of my having a life for a while and wasn’t able to do any blogging then. But anyways, the point of this post is to say how easy my wordpress upgrade was thanks to the wordpress automatic upgrade plug-in. Read the rest of this entry »

Did you know that you can use CommentLuv to increase your back links to your site/blog naturally? Actually I did not know about this before only until I check my blog statistics and I noticed a pattern on how my new commentators found my blog. I also tried what they did and found it surprisingly effective!

Great news everyone! After waiting patiently for wordpress 2.5, I just found out that it got released. Read more about it here in some of the blog posts of the Wordpress people.

As usual you can download wordpress at their site, http://wordpress.org/download/. Btw, check out their new interface. They also changed how the wordpress.org site works.

I’m still going over the files and will be doing the upgrade tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Stay tuned as I post here my upgrade experience.

Update Wordpress

Wordpress 2.3.3 was released yesterday and I suggest that you should update immediately.

WordPress 2.3.3 is an urgent security release. If you have registration enabled a flaw was found in the XML-RPC implementation such that a specially crafted request would allow a user to edit posts of other users on that blog. (Source)

As of now, I’m still doing the upgrade and trying to find out which files you need to replace. But one thing for sure, you need to replace the xmlrpc.php file since this is the focus of the wordpress 2.3.3 fix.

Update: Here are the files that you need to replace and add to your wordpress installation. Remember to backup first before doing any upgrade or update. :) Read the rest of this entry »

I don’t know if any of you remember about my post that wordpress 2.4 will be realeased on January 24, 2008. Well, I forgot to announce the news that released a few weeks ago that there will be no wordpress 2.4.

The developers decided that due to the holidays last December, they are going to jump directly to Wordpress 2.5 which is scheduled to be released late March or early April. Based on their roadmap, it’s April 1.

Update: Wordpress 2.5 scheduled to be released on March 10, 2008

Are you looking forward to the release of Wordpress 2.5?

Ever since I started using wordpress, I’ve been pretty amazed on the number of plugins it currently has and the numerous features that you can gain if you use those. I would like to share with you my personal list of Essential Wordpress Plugins that you should have.

I’ve broken them down into five (5) different parts:

  1. For your blog’s visitors - This is to enhance the experience of the visitors in your blog. Make them happy and surely they will return to your blog.
  2. For your blog’s protection - With numerous people getting hacked lately, you need all the protection that you need.
  3. For search engines - In order to gain organic traffic (search engine traffic), you should make your blog look good in search engines.
  4. For your blog’s functionality - Although wordpress already offers a lot of features, there are still some that we crave to have.
  5. For your blog’s feeds -Not all your visitors read your blog by visiting the website itself. Sometimes, they just subscribe through your feeds and read them there. So you should also make your feeds presentable. Why don’t you subscribe to my feeds too?

Just a quick note: Most of the plugins mentioned in this post are just upload and activate. I will be telling you if you need to do something to make it work. I have personally tested and used each of these plugins. They work with the latest version of wordpress. Read the rest of this entry »
