If by chance you have glanced at the wordpress dashboard in your admin panel, you might have seen this new announcement.

Wordpress 2.4 is estimated to be released on January 24, 2008.

I’m curious on what new features wordpress is going to add this time. They added a lot of features in wordpress 2.3 so I think wordpress 2.4 will have more. The new features are based on user requests so if you want a new feature to be added, just communicate your ideas at Wordpress Ideas.

Personally, here are the features I want wordpress 2.4 to have.

• Automatic separation of Trackbacks and Comments - I know that there are plug-ins to do this. However, after reading their “read me” files,  I realized that some tinkering has to be done on your theme in order for this to work. I suggest a more easier approach like, just activate it and it will be done automatically. (I’m just lazy I know)
• Improve the search feature in wordpress - Have you tried to search using the wordpress search feature? It only gives you the post titles in its results. I wish that it can give a mini excerpt of the post. It can use the data on the field, “Optional excerpt” to do that or just get the meta description of the post. It would be easier for the searchers.
• Add a Customized 404 Error Page - Instead of the ugly 404 page that users might find when they browse a dead link on your blog, they can be greeted with a helpful page that can give them some help. It would be beneficial for both bloggers and users. I know this can be done through .htaccess but I’m just lazy. hehe

As I was going through the links in my wordpress dashboard, I noticed a warning from Weblog Tools Collection.

This particular warning is thanks to an astute reader who pointed out another such site called blogstheme.com. They also provide “premium WordPress themes for free” but have modified the footer to suit themselves. The “WordPress” link in the footer of every theme distributed by that site links back to blogstheme.com and the downloads are not pristine as intended by the designers of the themes. The footers are also tainted with sponsored links that the original authors did not put there. I see a whole bunch of Small Potato’s themes on that site as well as themes from many other designers. Though the theme page lists the original author, the theme download is from blogstheme.com and not from the original authors’ site.

I feel sorry for those who spend hours or even days creating a wordpress theme only to be stolen by these people. It would have been ok if they are distributing it but they are even modifying it to make it look like they were the ones who created it.

Please avoid them and support the original authors of the themes. =)

Silkenhut’s World is now running under Wordpress 2.3.1.

Upgrading to 2.3.1 from 2.3 is easy. All you have to do is to replace these files and you are done. The list of files to replace are found after the jump. If you have any problems updating, don’t hesitate to leave a comment. ^_^

Wordpress 2.3.1 has just been released yesterday and I recommend that everyone should update immediately. There have been bugs that have been fixed but more importantly, there’s a security issue that can be exploited if you do not upgrade.

Unfortunately, some security issues were found in 2.3. Janek Vind found an XSS problem that can be exploited if your php setup has register_globals enabled. For this reason, upgrading to 2.3.1 is advised.

I found out about this update when I logged in into my wordpress dashboard and I found this update notification from wordpress. Not only does wordpress notify you when there are updates in the plugin but also when there’s also an update for wordpress.

Have you heard of the dummies series of books that teaches you stuffs? Their book titles are usually, “something here” for dummies, like for example, guitar for dummies, java for dummies, gardening for dummies (not sure if these titles exists hehe). Well, a blogger called Lisa Sabin-Wilson wrote a dummies book for wordpress and it will be released soon (October 29, 2007 to be exact).
