Today was a good day for all the Lasallians! This afternoon, we just witnessed the DLSU green archers defeating the UE Red warriors to capture the championship. It was a 2-0 sweep against UE. After sweeping the elimination round with a record of 14-0 then losing to a sweep in the championship must be a super duper mega ultra disappointment for UE. All their hard work from the eliminations down the drain after today’s match. This is a big comeback for DLSU after getting suspended last season due to an illegitimate player.
Update: There will be a celebration at De La University on October 11, 2007 starting at 4pm! Food fest!!! If you have time to eat, drink and be merry, join the fun!
Game Synopsis
The game started with both teams not able to score except for a free throw by DLSU. Suddenly, UE made some fast breaks to lead 8-1 but DLSU fought back to cut down that lead. A few more lead changes happened but suddenly DLSU was able to break free from the constant lead changes and lead for around 10 points come halftime. UE started to rally in the third quarter by making some good three point shots but DLSU hanged on their lead till the end of the game. The closest UE got in cutting the lead was just one point but their hopes were shattered when JV Casio made a long range shot with DLSU’s shot clock running out. It was considered as the turning point of the game and UE never recovered after that.
DLSU and UE Analysis
The DLSU green archers played very well today. They were able to capitalize on the fouls given to them by UE by sinking their free throws. They were also to crash the boards better today which they were completely dominated by UE in game 1. Rico managed to pull down ten rebounds or more I think which helped DLSU on second chance points and preventing UE on getting second chances. In terms of bench scoring, DLSU also had the advantage.
UE were also able to crash the boards to do some tip ins and they also had different players who were able to drain 3pt shots. So where did they went wrong? I guess the problem UE faced was they lacked experience which was needed in championship games. They crumbled late in the 4th quarter especially when Casio made that lucky shot. It was evident that they were already in a state of panic when they can’t even convert on their layups anymore.
Pocholo Villanueva as the X-Factor
One archer who was doing it all for DLSU was Pocholo “pochy” Villanueva!!! He silently does everything that he can while the other teams were busy shutting down TY Tang and JV Casio. The opponents often ignore pochy and I think that’s their worst mistake!!! Remember the ADMU-DLSU Do or Die game where Tang and Casio had bad shooting, it was Pochy who did the damage to ADMU. He made some great shots (super acrobatic how the hell did it went it in kind of shots), dish out assists and hustled for offensive rebounds that crushed ADMU’s hopes.
In the championship game, Pochy still wasn’t given much attention that’s why he had two great games against UE. He still continued to make good jumpers and what the hell acrobatic layups, dish out some assists, rebound the ball but also turn the ball over. However, in the second game against UE, Pocholo had few or maybe no TO in that game. He was named the player of the game with 14 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists. Pochy also shared the MVP honors with JV Casio. (Currently looking for a pochy picture to put in this post)
Other stuffs
It really feels very different watching the game on television when compared to watching the game live. When you watch the game on the television, not only there’s a three second delay but you have to bear with the numerous commercials. Btw, the best commercial that I’ve seen in the game was the Sunkist one.

10yep Cholo did play really well since the do-or-die game against ADMU.
Honestly, I never stopped praying the whole game against UE (game 2) because I knew UE has the ability to come back in the ballgame. So, as for me, glory should first be given to the Lord for guiding and assisting the Archers in their (and ours too) battle. GLORY TO GOD!
So what more can I say but ANIMO LA SALLE!
We’re back and We’re One!
