Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It’s Superman A.K.A. Dwight Howard?
(Source)
Dwight Howard showed everyone his superman cape and flew above defending champ Gerald Green, Rudy Gay and Jamario Moon.
Personal Opinions
Jamario Moon’s Slam Dunk - He started the contest with a 360 dunk. It was good because it required good timing in order to achieve it. However his second dunk was the dunk that made him lose. He placed a tape behind the free throw line giving us the idea that he was going to dunk from there. Also fellow Raptor, Jason Kapono will pass the ball to him. Even if he took two tries, he did not manage to jump before the the tape but managed to make the dunk. He got eliminated in the first round.
Rudy Gay’s Slam Dunk - I was disappointed with his first dunk. It looked like a dunk that’s being done of fast breaks in real NBA games and not all star slam dunk contest material. However, his second dunk looked good. He did a variation of the behind the backboard dunk introduced by Andre Iguodala in 2006. He had a team mate throw the ball in the support of the rim and he slammed it home. However, it wasn’t enough to make him go pass the first round.
Gerald Green’s Slam Dunk - Who’s birthday is it? Gerald Green’s first dunk was named the birthday cake. Basically, he placed a cake on top of the ring, lighted it and when he dunked on it, he blew out the candle. Very creative! But I think it was good to use on the final rounds and not on the first round.
Superman Dwight Howard’s Slam Dunk - Dwight’s first attempt of a dunk failed. He was trying to do the Iguodala dunk where he bounced the ball from behind the board, catch it and slam it home. When his second try was successful, he got a perfect 50! Ohhhh! But his second was the highlight of the contest. Dwight Howard suddenly became SUPERMAN! Dwight removed his jersey and put on his superman cape and flew high to thrown down the ball into the rim. Everyone went wild, even the commissioner of the NBA, David Stern! It was a very creative dunk. Both of these dunks got a perfect 50 and a trip to the final round.
Final Round
Gerald Green’s final round dunks were two between the legs dunk. The first one with shoes and the second one was without shoes. I just don’t get the logic why he repeated the same dunk. I can just say that removing his socks cost him his slam dunk title.
On the other hand, Dwight Howard made two different dunks. The first one where he bounced the ball on the board with his left hand, caught it with his right hand and jammed it home. It was awesome! This was done while in the air. The second one is where he placed a mini ring on the side of the board and placed a ball there. He then got the ball from the mini ring and slammed it home. It was not impressive as his previous dunks but enough to win the title. Superman is the new dunk champ! ^_^
Video Highlights
To watch a video of the different dunks that the contestants did in the 2008 nba all star slam dunk contest, see this youtube video.
Enjoy the show.
Why am I posting this?
To those who read my blog, you would know that I try to write about my blogging experiences and I recently discovered that writing on current events really does increase your traffic and also adsense income. I just did a check on Google Trends and see this trend on “Dwight Howard”.
That’s enough to say that this story will be the talk of the town for a few days or weeks.

2That is a cool pic! He really looks like he is flying.
I missed the soph - rookie game, but I did catch the dunk contest. It was actually good this year. The past few years the dunk contest had lost that flair that made it the next biggest part of the weekend besides the actual all-star game.

3@tv brackets - I really had fun watching Dwight Howard fly! The idea won’t be complete without the superman costume and the cape. Actually when I look at it, the dunks this year were more of creativity and audience impact rather than difficulty. ^_^

5Dwight Howard’s dunk was more of a lay-in rather than a dunk, if you’ll ask me. He didn’t even touch the rim when he dunked. But still, it was enough for him to win this year’s title. I think the Superman costume did the trick.
In my opinion, this year’s Slam Dunk Contest was an “ok” one. I say this because when you look at some players in the NBA today, you’ll see that there are some players out there more worthy of being selected as a Slam Dunk participant than the one’s that people chose. It’s just that these players have more exposure than the guys I’m talking about.
But all in all, I think the All-Star Weekend was still a success. I can’t wait for Allen to post this year’s All-Star Game. Haha! I rooted for West to win (Mainly because AI is my HERO!), but still the East snatched it. Damn!

6@Jedd - Actually Dwight Howard just throwed it down the rim because he was so high but he won’t be able to reach the rim. It was all about audience impact as you can see.
I’m still thinking if I’m going to post the all star games. It’s already a bit late. haha
