EraserHeads Concert Update and Tickets
We only have five days on the date of the EraserHeads concert and I believe, I have not made any updates about this event on this blog. So now, I’d like to give you some updates on the this anticipated reunion concert by the Eraserheads, how to get eraserheads concert tickets, and more concert updates.
This has been the buzz in the blogosphere for the past month. Many pinoy bloggers were posting lots of news and posts about the eraserheads concert because it is one of the most sizzling news of the year. I mean, the eraserheads were really famous back then when I was still in high school (oh that was just a few years ago), and they are already like the Beatles, localized version in terms of their influence.
So what are the details for this eraserheads concert reunion? Well, it has been said that it will be held on August 30, 2008 and the concert tickets are free. Yes, you heard it right, it is free so you don’t have to shell out some cash in order to watch the concert. I’m sure that if you have to pay to watch this concert, the prices of a ticket would be very high because this is such a rare event but let us all be thankful that this is a free event.
After knowing that the concert tickets are free, I’m sure that you would want to know how to get a concert ticket. But before that information, let me tell you first who is sponsoring the event. I’m sure the eraserheads won’t bother reuniting and performing again without a sponsor since organizing such an event would require money, time and more money! It has also created a buzz in the blogosphere on who is sponsoring the event but to cut the story short, the culprit, or I say, the sponsors of the event is the Philip Morris, a company that produces cigarettes such as the cigarette brand Malboro.
When this news leaked out, a lot of people were shocked and were thinking about the real purpose of the reunion concert. If the sponsor of the event is a cigarette company, wouldn’t there be a lot of smokers that will be going to the concert if the hopes of getting a free show and most importantly, to replenish their supplies of lung destroying sticks or cigarettes? What about those who doesn’t smoke? Do they have to suffer from second hand smoking just to see their favorite band play again after all these years? However, the questions doesn’t stop there.
There are still a lot of questions that are being raised specifically directed to the Philip Morris company itself. The main beef would be, aren’t they just using this as a marketing or an advertising tactic? Are they trying to twist the laws around because they have to promote their product but are having a hard time because of the recent ban of advertising cigarettes on mainstream media? If you want an analogy for the speculated purpose of this reunion concert and Philip Morris sponsoring, let us say this is similar to the children’s story Hansel and Gretel. The witch keeps on feeding them, making them happy and at the end, plans to eat them. Can you see what I mean?
I have mentioned before, a few paragraphs above, that the concert tickets are free. There is only one way to get these concert tickets. And the only way on how to acquire these tickets doesn’t help Philip Morris at all. Basically, to get the tickets, you have to be a member of Malboro’s red list. Now what is this red list? Basically, it’s like a membership club for smokers! Yes, you read it right, you have to be a smoker in order to join that. Well you can lie about it just for the sake of getting a ticket but it specifically states in the registration form that you admit that you are a smoker. Of course, it is hard to lie about your age because you are required to submit an ID or anything that will show your date of birth as proof of your age.
So what can you understand from the mechanics on how to get a concert ticket? It seems that this reunion concert is simply a special event by Malboro to its smokers. Of course they won’t admit it because it would be bad publicity but that is the image I am seeing. Of course, the authorities are not just standing by to let this special event slide. I have read in the news that the DOH or department of health are currently probing this event.
DOH has claimed that Philip Morris has violated Tobacco laws in the Philippines and if their argument would hold true, there would be a chance that this highly anticipated concert will get canceled. Yes, you read it right again, there is a big possibility of the EraserHeads Reunion concert getting canceled! Now that would be a big disappointment to all the fans but I’m sure there will be mixed reactions to the canceling of the event.
A lot of people are also criticizing the Eraserheads for allowing Philip Morris company to sponsor them. They are comparing them to what Alicia Keys did on her concert. Alicia Keys rejected the sponsorship of Philip Morris on her concert and they are saying that the Eraserheads should do the same. Seeing that the Eraserheads are an influential band to the young and old people alike, it would really tarnish their name if they are working in cahoots with a company that destroys our lungs with their products.
So what now? Well, let us just see and wait for more news on the eraserheads reunion concert. Will this concert push through or will this concert get canceled? More updates soon when I read some more news about this concert.
