Update: I managed to install the 1.5 Kernel!

–This is something I’m trying to do now and will update if I have news. So far, I am not able to do it. :)

On my first few attempts, I keep getting the error…

cannot decrypt updater prx

I read in blogs, forums and other sources of information that whenever I get this message, it means I have done something wrong. So I kept on trying until I was able to install it. Let me share what I did to make it work.

Download the necessary files

The first step in installing this kernel is to download the version for your firmware. For example, you are on 4.00, then you should download CFW 4.00 1.5 add-on. I was on 5.00 so I downloaded the CFW 5.00 1.5 add-on. You also need the 1.50 eboot file.

Checking the files

You should have the following files…

1.50 eboot file
1.5kernel addon files (there are 4 files and these should be in a folder)
eboot.pbp, ipl_update.prx, lilpsardumper.prx, pspdecrypt.prx

Putting the files in the correct folders

  1. Rename the 1.50 eboot file to 150.PBP
  2. Put the 1.50 eboot file in the root folder of your memory stick. (for example, your root folder is C:\, so it should be there).
  3. Copy the addon files to the folder /PSP/GAMEXXX/ where XXX would be your firmware version. It could be (380, 4XX, 5XX etc).
  4. then run the installer just like running a game.

Enjoy! :)

Conclusion

Well, I did manage to install it into my psp. I was doing this because I thought that this was a needed component before I could add emulators to my psp. I realized, I don’t need it because the emulators just run fine on my friends psp without installing 1.50 kernel. LoL. I feel like I wasted my time on this but oh well, I learned something new.
