How to use protect your Facebook with Bitdefender’s Safego?
With the recent flood of Facebook scam, viruses, worms, fake news posts and other Facebook nasties, we need to protect ourselves from them. Here’s an example of a recent spam that has been flooding our Facebook newsfeed lately, the
- “WTF!! this is really cool! Stolen Video Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.”,
- “YO! this is really cool! Stolen Video Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.”
- “omg! hahaha can happen to anyone! Stolen Video Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.”
- “ROTFL this is really cool! Stolen Video Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.”
NEVER click that link else you will turn into a spamming zombie.
Recently, I read about this application in Facebook that aims to detect such nasties and remove them from your newsfeed. It is called BitDefender Safego. In order to scan, just click on the “refresh” button on the upper left of the app.
I tried testing it by posting the links from the newsfeed above to my wall (only visible to me so that I won’t spam others) but it wasn’t able to detect it. Sad! I reported it to firstname.lastname@example.org right away.
You can install the application via this page (if you want to try).
Although the application asks for a lot of information, I edited some of them to prevent it from posting automatically to my wall and other permissions it doesn’t need to have in scanning my newsfeed. Stay safe!
Till next time,
