Once in a Blue Moon
When we finished our family reunion dinner today, we saw in the skies that there is a full moon. There’s not only a moon but it also has a ring. Too bad we did not have a camera that could capture this moment.
I did some searching and found out that today actually is a rare occurrence of a blue moon. A blue moon is a full moon that doesn’t follow the monthly pattern of the faces of the moon. It is not literally a blue moon.
For December 31, 2009′s blue moon, this will be the second full moon in the same month. What a way to end the new year.
We also have an expression called “once in a blue moon“, and it is interpreted as something that happens rarely such as when a blue moon appears. Blue Moons usually show up every 2.5 years.
