Paintless Dent Repair
Yesterday, I availed of a Paintless Dent Removal / Paintless Dent Repair or PDR service for short (which made a hole in my wallet) to repair those dents that my car had.
What is PDR? (answer by wikipedia)
Paintless dent repair (PDR), also known as “paintless dent removal”, is a collection of techniques for removing minor dents and dings from the body of a motor vehicle. A wide range of damage can be repaired using PDR; however, usually if there is paint damage, PDR may be unsuitable.
The most common practical use for PDR is the repair of hail damage, door dings, minor body creases, and minor bumper indentations. The techniques can also be applied to help prepare the damaged panel for paint. Such applications are referred to as “push to paint”, or “push for paint”.
Limiting factors for a successful repair using PDR include the flexibility of the paint, and the amount the metal has been stretched by the damage incurred. Hence, often extremely sharp dents and creases may not be repairable – at least not without painting afterwards.
The specialist was very skillful and we were all amazed on how he does it. He doesn’t use any machines but just multiple steel rods, a candle and a reflector rod.
See the pictures here…
He encircled the dents he has found. The dents look much clearer if your car is shiny because of the reflection of the light. (so it is good to wash it first just to remove those dirt spots that could conceal the dents)
Working on it from the inside. He is trying to push out the dent and he is using that yellow rod as a guide.
Working on it from the outside. Sometimes he pushes it a bit too much from the inside (causing a minor bump) that he will flatten using his candle (covered with plastic tape on the tip).
Oh where did my dent go?! A job well done! 😀
More of his work….
However, I still have two dents that may pose a challenge since it is found on the roof. I need to schedule a separate session for this.
I’m hoping that these two can also be repaired so that I will be dent free but it would be a challenge. Even the specialist is not so sure if it is possible with his methods.
Btw, it costs PHP300 per dent but you can try to bargain from the specialist. I managed to bring it down to PHP200 per dent. ^_^
Thanks to Bluemile Autodetailing for letting me avail of the Paintless Dent Repair service for some car love. ^_^
Till next time,
