This was our first time to try our Lazer Xtreme, a laser tag game.
Laser tag is a team or individual sport or recreational activity where players attempt to score points by tagging targets, typically with a hand-held infrared-emitting targeting device. Infrared-sensitive targets are commonly worn by each player and are sometimes integrated within the arena in which the game is played.
We saw this deal at CashCashPinoy and Jessa and I both wanted to try it out so we bought the vouchers. When we got there, we were the only customers so far so we played our first game of Lazer Xtreme 1 against 1. We could have waited for more players but since it was a Monday and it was noon (the kids should still be in school right?) so we had no choice. In our first game, we simply studied how the Lazer Xtreme game works, what do you do with your gun, where were the hiding places and what the overall terrain was. It was more of a “getting to know you” stage.
The rules were pretty simple (as discussed in the briefing room):
- Fifteen (15) minutes of gaming time.
- Shoot your enemies and destroy their base
- You get points if you shoot them at the shoulder pads (50 points), front chest (200 points), back (100 points) and phaser (??? points)
- If you get hit, you get disarmed for 3 seconds where you are a sitting duck for “snipers“.
- No running! No ducking! No crawling! No Climbing of railings (as if these can be reinforced lol)
- No cursing if you get PWNED
PWNED – The term implies domination or humiliation of a rival, used primarily in the Internet-based video game culture to taunt an opponent who has just been soundly defeated (e.g., “You just got pwned!”)
So our first game was simple… we blindly roamed around the place and shoot each other if we see each other. However, it gets boring when you know you are the only ones playing because you would want more targets. 😀
Our first game ended and we were given our scores, and our ice tea drinks to refresh our energies. I noticed that they had more customers, a party of 6, so the attendant told us that we can join them in the game.
So now, there are three teams, 3 vs. 3 vs. 2 (us), we were outnumbered but we still played. We were playing against two adults and four kids so it will be fun.
At the end of the game, we lost very badly. One of the adults had the same score as both of us combined. We were slaughtered by the suicide infantry (two little kids) and while the snipers (lady kid and glasses kid) just stayed at the top of their base shooting us while we pass by. The heavy artillery (adults) were just there roaming around and shooting what they can see. Our hardest obstacle would be the suicide infantry because once you shoot them or they see you, they are going to chase you even if you have already been disarmed. They would continue to shoot you so when three seconds is up, you get disarmed again (sneaky tactic). Of course, by fighting fire with fire, we also did the same to them but we were outnumbered so we could not keep up with that tactic so we ran.
Of course, the rule is, take no prisoners, so when I saw that one of the suicide infantry bumped into the heavy artillery and fell down, I hid as the heavy artillery was trying to help the crushed soldier. Then a few seconds later, they have been disarmed and I ran with a sneaky smile on my face. However, karma was watching me and it made me forget that rule because while I was slowly creeping up the ramp, I saw one of the suicide infantry lay flat on the floor (he tripped). I asked if he was ok and he replied with a “bang“, I got disarmed and got chased to the other side of the room.
Overall, that game gave us a good mixture of heart pounding cardiovascular exercise.
Things and tips I learned from the game:
- Terrain is a big difference maker. If you are at high ground, you can shoot at blinking ducks while those on lower ground would have a hard time returning the favor.
- Try to press the trigger button for 1 second to get more hits. If the laser doesn’t hit any of the pads, you don’t get a hit.
- You can run, duck, hide … but at your own risk. 🙂
- Know where your enemies “base” are. Destroying them will net you points I think.
- Employ stealth… there are a lot of “corners”, holes in the wall, and dim atmosphere for that purpose so don’t be like Rambo.
- Take no prisoners! 🙂
I would like to thank CashCashPinoy and Lazer Xtreme for this great experience. I used to be an addict in counter-strike and now I know how it feels like to be on the battlefield. I wonder why I couldn’t do the jump-crouch… lol
