Using CommentLuv to gain backlinks or spam blogs
Hi! I'm Allen and I welcome you to my blog. I blog mainly about my blogging experiences where I get to learn how to earn money online through blogging and have fun doing so. To learn more about my blog, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. If you have some questions, feel free to ask me by using my contact form. Thank and have a nice day.
Did you know that you can use CommentLuv to increase your back links to your site/blog naturally? Actually I did not know about this before only until I check my blog statistics and I noticed a pattern on how my new commentators found my blog. I also tried what they did and found it surprisingly effective!
Before I tell you the trick, let me first Introduce you to the CommentLuv Plug-in. CommentLuv is a wordpress plug-in that aims to give an incentive to your readers to comment on your blog because if they comment on your blog, CommentLuv will automatically get the last post from their blog and add it to their comment. It’s like, if you comment here, you get a back link. (The link is no-follow though)
Here is the trick…
What people do is to find blogs that have comment luv enabled. It is easy because by default, when commentluv is enabled, it add this text to your comment area, “Enable CommentLuv which will try and get your last blog post, please be patient while it finds it for you“. So what you have to do is to find blogs that have these text and write comments on them so that you can get your back link.
For example, you want back links to your blog about pinoy blogging, you simply write this query on Google Search, “Enable CommentLuv” pinoy blogging. The pattern is “Enable CommentLuv” keywords. Then you will get results of blogs that have something to do with pinoy blogging and have commentluv enabled. You can start writing comments for them and in the long run, you would have gained some links back to your blog.
However, this can also be abused by other people. They would use this trick and spam blogs with useless comments just to gain backlinks. So if you noticed you gained some comments and found some keywords in their comments, don’t hesitate to delete them. Show them that you only accept comments that have some real content in them and not for the purpose of gaining back links.
I hope you liked this little trick I learned. ^_^

This is actually kind of how I found this very post, although not using the exact same method as you (I used google’s blogsearch tool) … I’ve thought about getting more active in the “blog community” and doing more commenting but… I don’t know - is it really worth the time? I suppose it’s a nice thing to do when you are just going around and reading blogs anyway - which I do like to do.

You can’t underestimate the various ways that people get to your blogs. I found this site in a blog directory. It’s all about removing obstacles that get between you and your readers.

hmm.. well most of my commenters (at the moment) are simply looking for psp games/tips so I’m not worried (yet) of this happening to me. Thanks for the heads up though.
I’ll guess I’ll just step up my anti-spam filter

the thing I like most about the commentluv plugin is exactly what it is designed for, offering a quick look at what my commentators are writing about at the moment and many times have I followed those leads, encountering really interesting posts. It is how I got to this blog and commentluv will now take me to sylv3rblades post on procrastination…
just loving commentluv surfing!

I think there’s one more plugin which will limit the comment abuse. You can set it so that comment links become do-follow only after the same person has commented at least 10 times. I forget the name of the plugin, but I’m sure you can find it easily.

I have actually made a bookmark of courtney tuttle’s list of do-follow blogs and have been trying to comment on those blog entries that I can relate to. They are few and far between however. I think one of the recourse for the blog owner is to set up comment moderation so that those who are only in search of backlinks and who don’t have any relevant thing to say do not get displayed at the discretion of the owner.
I wish blogger has something like this though, but if you know Google….

Glad I happened upon your blog while dropping E-cards, this sounds like a great way to get comments. This is the first time I have heard of CommentLuv. But isn’t this program a little risky when using Google Adsense? I had a blog deleted because of too many links. I will check it out ASAP. Great article. Thanks for the info.

That’s a good one. I was just thinking about getting the plugin myself, and that’s why I read the post, little did I know that post was actually…

the comment luv plug-in is an excellent way of inviting bloggers to comment on your post. But as you said, it can be abused.
For the commenter, he gets backlinks and free promotion of his latest post. I might enable that plug-in in my blog later on. But not now.

@Jonny - Hello there, I think this is really worth your time if you want other bloggers to notice your blog. Think of equivalent trade, you spend time with them and they will do the same (hopefully).

@Mirjam - Oh I see, commentluv surfing. I like that term! So you like to hop from one blog to another depending on the post title. I wish I had the time to do that too since it sounds like fun.

@Jehz - Oh no! Jehz will now use it to his advantage!!! haha
April 29th, 2008 at 10:05 am
@Ling - Hello Ling, actually I have a plug-in that works just like that. It’s called “Lucia’s Linky Love”. My settings is after 3 comments but do you think I should raise the limit?
April 29th, 2008 at 10:06 am
@Javi - Oh I see, may I see the list of those do-follow blogs? I don’t usually moderate my posts but once in a while I just read some and delete those spam looking comments on the spot.
That’s one disadvantage of blogger, you either have to look for hacks or wait for the blogger team to add those features.
April 29th, 2008 at 10:08 am
Kowgirl - Hi Kowgirl, I don’t think commentluv has an issue with google adsense. Although it gives you two outbound links per comment, the links of commentluv automatically have no-follow in them. What type of blog was deleted due to lots of links? That’s really interesting…
April 29th, 2008 at 10:09 am
@Dave from Welcome Back Rosenthal - Yeah at first I thought this plug-in was just a way to provide incentives to your readers to comment but others discovered it’s other uses so I just shared what I learned.
April 29th, 2008 at 10:10 am
@ceblogger - Yes it does provide a good incentive but sadly I could not provide any statistics if my comment count really increased with this plug-in activated.

What I wrote in google was: “Enable CommentLuv” +”money online”. Thats how I found you. I like the idea of an exchange, I comment and you give me a backlink. Too sad its a nofollow
Is it nofollow by default CommentLuv configurations? or you set up it? Anyway, there is allmost nothing for me out of this comment deal in your blog
you do not follow!
May 17th, 2008 at 10:00 am
@Shiela - Yup yup. So don’t stop commenting and keep on coming back
May 17th, 2008 at 10:02 am
@Tom B - Hello, the no follow is off by default in the config of the plug-in I did not set it up. So are you saying that you would only comment if you get a backlink? The author name is already a back link and as I can see, commentluv didn’t get any feed from your website.

I found you this way as well. Great post! Commentluv is a great addition to any blog, it turns it into more of a community!

Hi
I was wondering if it is only for wordpress-wordpress blogs. I mean this plugin is used by wordpress bloggers. The question is : Do commentators have to be a wordpress blogger? Say if I have Google’s blog, will it be working well? And what if I have a normal website?
Hmmm. so this edit option comes with this plug-in or you have installed it separately?

June 21st, 2008 at 10:49 am
@Eligio - Yes I agree. But you can always moderate comments which should remove those poor quality comments.
June 21st, 2008 at 10:50 am
@Mini - Hi Mini, commentluv is a plug-in that is installed on wordpress bloggers. Anyone who comments on a blog with commentluv will get a free backlink as long as that person’s rss feed can be found. So normal websites can’t benefit from commentluv but blogs can. I hope it’s clear.
