WidgetCity Online Store Experience and Review
One of the items on my wish list is the X-Mini Max 2 Speakers. I’ve been seeing it sold in malls at a price of ~PHP2500 and I was hesitant to buy it due to that price. However, when I saw an online ad before that sells it for around PHP 1500-PHP2000 only, I set my focus on buying it at that price range only. It wasn’t really an urgent need for me but it suddenly became one when I saw that WidgetCity (http://www.widgetcity.com.ph/) was selling it for PHP 1500 only.
I then visited their site frequently and did some searching on the reviews about WidgetCity. There wasn’t enough online reviews about them (or I just don’t know where to search) so I decided to try out my luck and contact to inquire about the speakers.
April 24 – I sent a text message to their published contact numbers and they replied (but they could be more courteous to customers!). I asked about the availability of the item and told them that I’ll be sending an email. I sent an email to email@example.com telling them about my intent to buy the speakers and on how can I get it shipped to my place.
April 26 – I sent a follow-up email because I didn’t get any reply. I also sent them a text message and they replied, “regarding” and after I replied, I didn’t get a reply. Is it too much to reply to potential customers?
April 27 – Still no reply so I created an account on their website and bought the X-Mini Max 2 speakers, and I paid via Paypal (credit card). I got an automated reply from firstname.lastname@example.org. Since I paid via the paypal/credit card option, I sent a scanned copy of my credit card and 2 IDs.
April 30 – I again sent another follow-up (3rd) and a certain “Martin Luther Bornilla email@example.com” replied to me informing me that I only paid for the item and not the shipping. How would I know what to do if they are not replying? I didn’t want to prolong the transaction so I opted to simply pick up the item from their location so they gave me the address and I went to their place.
May 3 – I was able to pick up the item at this location.

I had troubles picking up the item because when I asked them what I need to bring, they replied “ID and credit card”. However, they didn’t inform me that the building also needs an ID before you can enter and upon reaching their place, they were asking me for a photocopy of the “scanned copy” I sent to them via email. So I had to go back down and find an internet shop (glad there’s one inside the building) and print that scanned copy. Hassle!
As you can see, my review is mostly complaints and I couldn’t help it. They really need to improve on their communications and their instructions especially to new buyers. However, to cut them some slack, they do have instructions in their website and that photocopy requirement was written there for pick-ups. But shouldn’t they have told me that too when I asked them via email?
Another thing I wanted to share was … do check the item carefully before you leave their place. The first item that they gave me had a defective speaker so I was able to complain and get a replacement right away. Overall, I’m still happy that I got a brand new speaker from WidgetCity and I just needed to be patient.
