Wordpress 2.4 to be released on january 24 2008
If by chance you have glanced at the wordpress dashboard in your admin panel, you might have seen this new announcement.
Wordpress 2.4 is estimated to be released on January 24, 2008.
I’m curious on what new features wordpress is going to add this time. They added a lot of features in wordpress 2.3 so I think wordpress 2.4 will have more. The new features are based on user requests so if you want a new feature to be added, just communicate your ideas at Wordpress Ideas.
Personally, here are the features I want wordpress 2.4 to have.
- Automatic separation of Trackbacks and Comments - I know that there are plug-ins to do this. However, after reading their “read me” files, I realized that some tinkering has to be done on your theme in order for this to work. I suggest a more easier approach like, just activate it and it will be done automatically. (I’m just lazy I know)
- Improve the search feature in wordpress - Have you tried to search using the wordpress search feature? It only gives you the post titles in its results. I wish that it can give a mini excerpt of the post. It can use the data on the field, “Optional excerpt” to do that or just get the meta description of the post. It would be easier for the searchers.
- Add a Customized 404 Error Page - Instead of the ugly 404 page that users might find when they browse a dead link on your blog, they can be greeted with a helpful page that can give them some help. It would be beneficial for both bloggers and users. I know this can be done through .htaccess but I’m just lazy. hehe

Add a Customized 404 Page. As far as I know, you can make a customized 404 page by adding a 404.php on your theme’s folder. ;D

Improve the search feature in wordpress - this is dependent on your blog’s theme. you can modify the search.php and format the result all you want.

I’m excited to find out what new search features will be included. The current default leaves out too much (eg. Pages)

Actually I have not yet upgrading to 2.3 then 2.4 is coming … Oops I have to know how to update soon..
