Wordpress 2.8 released
Wordpress 2.8 has been released this week. I wonder what are the new features?
Well, for sure I’m going to use the wordpress automatic upgrade feature to upgrade my blog. This is a new feature added way back in 2.7 series and it really makes updating your wordpress very easy.

If it auto-updates, then why announce the new versions? I mean, just let it auto-update.

the auto update doesn’t really work very well
It messes up file permissions. The least that could happen is the wordpress white page of death.

Hi Ling, Auto-update in a sense that you can update your wordpress with just one click .. unlike previous ways where you have to download the new wordpress files, upload them to your server, then run the upgrade scripts… etc…
the auto upgrade will do this for you instead. But i don’t think there is one that will do it all for you as people sometimes do not want to upgrade at all.

Wordpress 2.8 looks really good. The code editing portion is improved by adding some colors to the tags which makes it easier to identify.

You can check the plug-in’s page if you see if they are compatible with wordpress 2.8. Usually the plug-in authors update their plug-ins so that it would be compatible. If they fail to update, feel free to get a similar plug-in that does.

Just one note on it – I always like to wait for next release cause even now we are seeing issues with some plugins.
