How to fix random pop-ups by Internet Explorer Virus?

Yesterday, I noticed that that internet explorer has been acting weird. It would be opening pop-ups at random times and open a new page that would direct to these sites.

I did some research on these sites and aside from the low results from Google, I found a similar problem in Yahoo Answers that said this is a rootkit.;_ylt=Ah0JFDcTOj4oAb1RLHnuDyYjzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20100914164733AA93VVj

Rootkit Definition

A rootkit is a stealthy type of malicious software (malware) designed to hide the existence of certain processes or programs from normal methods of detection and enables continued privileged access to a computer.

I don’t know much about rootkits but I’m sure it was a bad thing so I updated MalwareBytes and did a quick scan (where it took over an hour to finish), and indeed I found some bad stuffs on my computer.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\taskman (Worm.Palevo)

C:\Documents and Settings\x\Application Data\rmhzb.exe (Worm.Palevo)

What is this Palevo Worm and how did I get infected with it?

Oh well, as long as my computer is clean and nothing is popping out anymore, I’m happy and still satisfied with MalwareBytes.

I would suggest that a regular scan of MalwareBytes or any related security software should be done (perhaps once a week) to ensure that your computer is clean and virus free.
