How to Fix Facebook Upload Photo Problem?

Have you experienced uploading to facebook only to see the uploader widget on your lower right side stuck on 0% or if it moves, after waiting you will see the message upload failed?

It is very frustrating especially when you want to upload lots of pictures and Facebook is getting all buggy on you. Well in order to solve this, you have some options, either find a way to make the Facebook Photo Uploader work on your computer or use a 3rd party photo uploader in facebook.

Let us start first with making the Facebook Photo Uploader work.

It may be your browser. I currently have Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome on my laptop. The most failure in uploads I got was when using Chrome. I usually use firefox in uploading photos and it has a higher rate of success. I have no experience in using Internet explorer in uploading pictures
It may be your java version. The facebook photo uploader uses java so you may want to update to the latest java JRE where you can get on http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
Try uploading a few photos at a time. Instead of uploading them all in one batch only to see them fail, try uploading them in batches of 5 – 10. Sometimes this is my only way in making photo uploads successful in Chrome.

If these doesn’t work, I won’t blame you. It is really buggy so a lot of people move to 3rd party photo uploaders. Let us start with the following :

FireUploader – (works with firefox only) . This is a plug-in for firefox that can upload your pictures to facebook via drag and drop (the interface is similar to fireFTP , I’m not sure if they are the same creators). Very easy to use!
Picasa Uploader – Requires that you have Picasa Application installed on your computer. I haven’t tried this yet because I’m already happy with fireuploader.

Why you should use Free ESET Online Scanner?

I was introduced to this when I asked for help in bleepingcomputer.com because my laptop got infected by a virus.

Because of my experiences of getting infected, lately I have been recommending the usage of MalwareBytes and Freefixer to help you fight against viruses and malware. However, they are not the complete package as aside from running scans once in a while, you should have a good antivirus (even antivirus suite) to protect your computer.

Unfortunately, my laptop doesn’t have that. It is protected by a known brand but I don’t even think it is running. I did not install this myself as it was there after the image copy on this laptop and because this is not really mine (company laptop), I don’t bother installing real and reliable protection on it.

So when I was asking for help, they recommended me to use the ESET online scanner to scan my computer. There are a lot of online scanners out there but having this one get recommended by them gives it a high rating for me.

So anyway, I suggest that you use Internet Explorer to install this so that it will just install just like a plug-in in firefox (activeX). If you install it in other browsers, you will have to download an installer to launch the online scanner.

After installing, you will configure the options as Step 1 .

Tick Remove Found Threats
Tick Scan Archives
Tick Scan for potentially unwanted applications
Tick Enable Anti-Stealth Technology
In Current Scan Targets: you can choose where to scan (your hard disk, and/or external drives / memory)

After you click on next, Eset will download the (Step2) virus signature databases automatically then (step 3) run the scan on your computer.

The last step which is step 4 will be about the results of the scan. Be happy if it did not find any viruses and if it did, still be happy because it will remove them automatically.

I would recommend that you delete the quarantine for all those viruses that you found so that they won’t return when you accidentally restore them from quarantine.

Oh btw, Eset Online scanner keeps a log in the following location

Windows XP = C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET Online Scanner\log.txt

So that’s it. Try running this program whenever you feel that you have a virus. Also run this when somebody inserts an external storage device on your computer such as USBs, external hard disk and similar items.

Btw, ESET also has their own antivirus and it is NOD32, have you heard of it?

How to relieve back pain caused by cold or “lamig”?

As a constant victim of back pain, I need to be cured from this!
Back pain caused by cold or “lamig”

Here in the Philippines, when we have back pains, our first option would be to get a massage. When in the massage, we tell them that our back hurts and their usual answer would be, it is because of “lamig” or cold. To get rid of this “lamig”, they would knead a part of your back (usually in the shoulder blades area) and you will feel pain. It is like touching your veins but it is hard, and through continuous pressure, they will break the “lamig” apart then move on to other areas in your body.

Usually the “lamig” stays in the following (based on my last massage):

Back – near shoulder blades
your traps (beside the neck)
legs (calf muscles)
fingers

What causes “lamig”?

I always get reprimanded when I do some activities that makes me sweat and I don’t have a towel with me. If I cannot wipe off my sweat, they would simply dry off your body right? Apparently, this is the number 1 cause of “lamig”. You will be more prone to have back pains later on due to the “cold air” that have built up your back.

So when doing anything that will make you sweat, make sure to bring a towel and do not let it dry off by itself.

Currently, I need to get rid of this from my back because it hinders me whenever I’m doing something (even just by eating).

How to install Castle Age Auto Player?

Playing Castle Age on Facebook? Make your life easier by installing the castle age autoplayer.

Note that the autoplayer only works if your browser is FireFox (I have not made it work for Chrome yet and it is hopeless for IE).

So let’s get on to the details…

Have you been playing castle age? It is a game on Facebook where you take on a role where you can do the following:

travel through lands doing quests
battle with other players
pray to gods
challenge monsters

For me, this is fun for the first few hours or days but it gets repetitive as you play more so the solution for this is, the Castle Age Autoplayer!

Basically, all you have to do is to install this and let it play for you. So here are the instructions:

Install Greasemonkey on Firefox (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748)
Install the Castle Age Autoplayer (http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/57917)

Laptop hitting 100% usage when Power Adapter Connected

I hope I managed to write a good description of my problem because I am currently experiencing this problem now on my laptop. Here is how this started…

I was playing some online games when I realized I was late for work so I did a shutdown of my laptop in haste and placed it on my bag. Yes, the laptop hasn’t cooled down yet when I placed it on my bag. I traveled to the office and I can feel some heat in my backpack (where my laptop is) and when I arrived at the office, I can still feel some heat.

I setup my laptop on the desk, plugged the power adapter, and upon turning it on, it was very slow. After showing the Windows loading screen, the screen would turn black and I was thinking that maybe something is wrong or it hanged. I did a force shutdown and turned it on again. The same thing happened so I simply waited for it. After a few minutes, it managed to reach the windows log-in screen, I logged in and waited for my applications to start. It was very slow!

I opened task manager and saw that my CPU usage was a constant 100%! I tried manually killing some of the processes but the usage was still the same so I turned it off again (properly).

I talked to my friends and they said I might have a virus (what? again?) but one of them said that it might be a problem to my power adapter. So I tried running the laptop on batteries only and it was running normally. The time from boot-up until log-in was very fast (the way I want it to be). However, when I plugged in the adapter, cpu usage went 100% again. Then I pulled out the plug, cpu usage died down. I did it like for 5x just to be sure on the theory that laptop is hitting 100% usage when plugged in.

I thought I would be stuck on borrowing adapter’s from other people when a friend of mine lifted the laptop then placed it back down, and the problem disappeared. I was shocked and asked what did he do. He answered that he just looked at something then placed it back down. So in essence, he just moved the laptop. I was amazed and turned off the laptop. I opened it again to see 100% cpu usage and I tried moving the laptop left and right, up and down, and in whichever direction until the 100% cpu usage disappears. It works!

Workaround / Solution

So basically, if this is your problem, you can try moving your laptop around or better if you move the adapter, place it on the left, place it on the right or wherever you want. I even tried to tangle and untangle the cords until the usage is back to normal. I know this isn’t the best technical solution but currently, I’m doing this stop the 100% cpu usage.

As of the moment, the problem has not reoccurred.

How to be a Paypal Verified User?

Getting verified in Paypal is an important step to achieve if you want to continue buying/sending money via paypal.

I only learned about this when I was about to pay my webhost, HostGator, for my hosting plan when I realized I cannot pay anymore because I have exceeded the sending limit and the only way out of it was to become a Paypal Verified User.

Basically this will happen if you want to become a verified paypal user:

Paypal will ask you for a credit card for them to charge you
They will charge you $1.95 in your credit card
Wait for your credit card statement
Check your credit card statement and see an entry that starts with PP *XXXX ….
Input the four digit number (XXXX in step 4) in your paypal account to get verified

Easy isn’t it?

This process made me panic before because I only use paypal to pay for my hosting fees. Good thing I applied for a credit card just late January 2010 else I would not have been able to pay for my bills and we can say goodbye to this blog =(

The Panasonic Lumix ZS3 that blogging bought

Mid-January 2010, I made a visit to Hidalgo Street, Quiapo with a mission in mind. The mission is to buy my first digital camera for myself and using the money that I earned via blogging. Happy to say that the mission was a success!

[Note] This is an uber late post as I should have posted this the moment I touched the box in the picture above (which was taken using the ZS3 btw) but .. well I’m just posting it now.

Honestly, I’m not really a big earner in blogging because I’m not a consistent blogger but I’m still happy because even though I made not be posting much and sometimes just earning cents daily, Google Adsense was still generous enough to send me money enough to buy a digital camera, accessories and still have left to make a dollar account.

So why a digital camera?

I could have bought other stuffs in which I don’t know what to buy but I decided on getting a digital camera because of one big reason:

Whenever there are events, I want to have pictures and I only get to do that when I leech from those who brought cameras

That is the only reason why I wanted one too. I was envious of the people who bring cameras to events because they can make good memories out of the event while I can only try my best to recall what happened in the event days, months or even years later. So with that purpose, the search for a digital camera started!

Why a point and shoot? Why not an SLR?

Simply because, I’m lazy. I simply want to point and shoot. I noticed that SLRs are big (bulky for me to bring) and have lots of buttons (meaning lots of settings) so from that point, they were out on my list. So the hunt for a good point and shoot started. So which one do I look for? I was a camera n00b and I really had no idea on what features I need or even what they mean.

Drilled down to Panasonic

A friend of mine suggested that I look at Panasonic digital cameras. I did not know even that they had cameras (lol). Usually I see Canon, Sony, Kodak maybe but Panasonic? But I still did research and surprisingly, it looks good (remember I’m a n00b so I don’t know actually what’s good or not). So what I did was to copy the features and asked my friends if the set of features are good then compared it with other models of other brands.

I also read a lot of forums for reviews and comparisons. Here are a sample of them.

So basically, I decided on getting the Panasonic Lumix ZS3 because of it’s super zoom capability. It can zoom in using 10x optical zoom. Others are also saying that I should get the Lumix LX3 (said to be an SLR in a point and shoot body) but it is much more expensive and is much more advanced. Perhaps I will regret my decision later when I grow more fond in taking pictures but as of now, I am happy with my ZS3 especially when I think on where I got the money to buy it.

**Btw, on January 26, 2010, Panasonic just announced the newest model of the Lumix ZS series, the ZS5 and the ZS7. I believe that Panasonic just addressed the complains of the ZS3 reviewers by giving it manual settings (shutter speed, aperture and exposure). In the reviews I have read, that was the one big letdown for ZS3 because it doesn’t have much manual settings so I guess Panasonic listen to their buyers and added them in ZS7.

Now, I’m really envious of ZS7, it was announced in less than two weeks after my purchase of a ZS3!!! Anyway, I’m just wait for a price drop on that and buy it soon when my ZS3 goes old.

ZS3 Battery (DMW BCP10pp) via EBAY and claimed it from PhilPost Office

People would believe anything these days.

There is this email, facebook posts, blog posts going around that is entitled, “Who owns a house like this“. The email shows you pictures of an elegant (yes, very nice) house and at the bottom, it says, it is owned by Manny Villar (one of the presidentiables of 2010 Philippine Elections). I don’t know who started this chain email but a lot of people are believing this scam / hoax email.

I’m not pro-villar or anything but a quick research will prove that this email is fake. If you do a quick search on the words of the email in Google, skip past the other people who blindly copy paste this, you will see websites claiming that this was fake years ago. It was used against another person before, the president of Zimbabwe, now, the words has been changed and is being used against Manny Villar.

Crab Mentality at its best.
