How to add a blogspot sitemap in Google Webmaster tools?

This is a question that I found when I was browsing the PinoyBlogosphere Yahoo Groups.

Please enlighten me on this matter…

*** I kept having this error in my Google webmaster tools and I can’t figure out how to correct this. it often says URL not allowed..

Google has detected some URLs that appear to be at a higher level or different domain than the Sitemap file location….

my website is http://wengtea.blogspot.com

What is a sitemap?

A sitemap is like a table of contents for your blog or website. It is a file in your site that is named, “sitemap.xml“.

How to create a sitemap?

For wordpress users, you can add a sitemap by using a plug-in called Google XML sitemaps. However for blogger users, you are not able to create a sitemap. (yet? maybe the blogger team might add this feature soon)

How to add a blogspot sitemap in Google Webmaster tools?

You might be wondering, if blogger is not able to create a sitemap then what’s the use of this question. I chose to answer this question because there is a little workaround for you to add a “sitemap” even if you are on blogger. Allow me to teach you how…

Since we don’t have a sitemap.xml file, we need to make use of another file in blogger that we can submit as a sitemap. In this case, we will have to use the “atom.xml” file.

If you think about it, what I’ve done here is to add the feeds to make it look like a sitemap. Even if it is not really a sitemap, it is a good alternative and it works. This is what I’ve been doing when I was still using a blogger.

Important Update:

Using atom.xml won’t work if you are using Feedburner to redirect your feeds. That’s what I’ve learned when I checked weng’s blog and the atom.xml of her blog.

Instead of using “atom.xml“, you can use these alternatives instead.

      This was been my problem since February of last year when I had the opportunity to open a blog in blogspot. I have tried your suggestion and waiting for response from the Google. Whatever happen thanks for the info.

      @Yatot – What results are you expecting? Actually, I’m thinking that blogger users don’t even need a sitemap because Google already indexes your blogs faster than other blogs platforms. :)
