What is the best antivirus software to use?

Antivirus | Best Antivirus | virus protection | virus scan

Protection of your computer is very important especially if you go online a lot. You don’t know what you could be downloading to your computer that could cause havoc to your system. So to protect yourself, you need to install a software called anti-virus.

There are a lot of antivirus software out there in the internet. Some can be downloaded for free while some you have to buy them. Some can detect only a handful of viruses while some flags every file you have as a virus or a potentially unsafe file. Some are actually viruses themselves disguised as an antivirus.

I’m sure you have heard the names, Norton antivirus, McAfee antivirus, Panda antivirus, nod32 antivirus, trend micro antivirus, avg antivirus, avast antivirus, kaspersky antivirus, bitdefender antivirus and all other softwares are there. (there are a lot).

Personally, if you would ask me, my answer would be Kaspersky Antivirus is the best antivirus hands down! When I discovered it while searching for some antivirus programs, I have never changed my antivirus software ever again.

How about you? What for you is the best antivirus you ever used?

      Linux ;)

Personally, I have a very strong dislike for Norton and McAfee. Norton used to be okay, but it just kept on getting more bloated over time and today is a mess. I have heard the enterprise version isn’t as bad though.

I know a lot of people like Avast and AVG, but I have never used them. I had always liked ClamWin, but the last time I used it, I tested it and it missed a fairly obvious virus…

@Porch Lifts, hmm does norton have a partnership with windows or something? Because whenever I see a new laptop with windows xp or vista, it comes bundled with a norton antivirus trial version. But I have to agree, Norton is really bloated. McAfee, hmm didn’t last a few days of using it before. :)

Avast and AVG are used a lot because they have free versions. I have tried them too and ended up removing them. Hmm clam win, that is something I have to test yet. ^_^

I’ve got AVG installed, but more than any anti-virus, I think it’s important that you know what sites to visit, and what pages you shouldn’t be opening. Once you’re able to understand that, there’s very few things that the anti-virus needs to do.

@Ling, I agree Ling. However, sometimes, people get gullible and tricked by the ads they see and goes to places they shouldn’t go. In our school before, we were afraid of flash disks touching our laptops because we don’t know where they were inserted (which might have viruses). hehe

      @Allen Gurrea

Typically when you see software bundled like that on Windows, it is because they are paying the manufacturer. Norton and McAfee will pay to have their software on there, so hopefully when the trial period expires, people will pay to get it renewed.

With all the free alternatives out there, I don’t think there is a reason to pay for antivirus. At least not on a home system. Business is a little different.

@Porch Lifts, Oh I see. Thanks for the information. So it’s like an advertisement. Lol hhe…

Hmm, I don’t think the free antivirus programs are really good. I would still go for “pay” antivirus but..with.. you know.. making it free via other means.. hehe

I am using Kaspersky before, pity , it take up too much system resources. I found the other good AntiVirus product names : Kingsoft Internet Security . Download is here: http://www.ksoffice.net/products/kingsoft-internet-security-9.htm

Fast , and I found the functions in the Antispyware , except Scan Virus , it has PC Optimization , I like it very much .
